Marine & Port Facilities Projects

Project: Mare Island Bridge

Conditions: 8" gas pipe risers located on Tennessee St Bridge, Mare Island, and Vallejo
Risers exhibited high degree of degradation due to breakdown of mastic backed PE extruded jacket with undercutting corrosion at splash zone.

Objective: Permanent external corrosion protection. To be applied underwater while combating strong waxing and waning cold water currents

Solution: After underwater wrapping with Denso petrolatum tape system, as performed by divers, a 7.5' length wrap of 120 mil HDPE, UV resistant jacket is put into place and secured by bands of .500 x .030 317l stainless steel, and 316 ss buckles every 2'

Project: Valero Dock Piling Encapsulation

Conditions: Multiple underwater, marginally cleaned dock pilings indicating blistered surfaces and ongoing corrosion at splash zone located in fast moving waters where floating objects are common

Objective: Permanent external corrosion protection of marginally clean piling substrate, applied underwater, together with mechanical protection

Solution: Divers prime and wrap pilings with 8" Densly Tape at 55% overlap from about 3' below water surface up to a height of 12' above waterline. Following tape system application, 11.75' x 4.5' sheets of 120 mil HDPE, UV resistant jackets are positioned over wrapped pilings by divers and cinched into place using 12" space bands where incidents of splash and moving objects is highest, and 18'' to 20'' spacing elsewhere
